Rhaphidophora Korthalsii is a rare aerial root plant known for its flat climbing foliage that gives the effect of lush green roof shingles. Native to Australia and nicknamed “Shingle plant”, they’re a relatively slow-growing houseplant that makes for a great table accent or striking floor plant.

Care & Maintenance for Rhaphidophora Korthalsii :

Light: Bright indirect light (Shingle plant will grow happily with natural or artificial light. If you don’t have a bright window to grow it near, it can thrive under fluorescent or LED lights.)

Water: Must be kept moist through spring and summer. Water about 3 times a week in warmer weather, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings to avoid root rot. Mist every few days during the growing season as well. Cut back on watering during the winter

Soil: Rich, well-draining, airy soil. A regular indoor houseplant soil heavily amended with peat moss

Fertilizer: fertilize sparingly at least 6 inches away from the base, tri-annually with a slow-time released product.

Temperature: Anything below or above 60 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit will stunt its growth and possibly kill it.

Humidity: They love humidity, 70% humidity is preferred, if the air is too dry the plant will not grow. Place near a humidifier or use a pebble tray with water to assist with this.

Maintenance: Yellow leaves signify overwatering. When your plant starts outgrowing the wood piece provided, you can add another piece of wood, cut your plant or allow it to overgrow for a natural look.

Growth: Up to 2′ tall
